Melting diamonds! Science investigation.

In Chestnuts we read the story Diamonds in the Snow by Jonathan Emmett. In the story mole finds what he thinks is a diamond but it melts in his hands. He then sees lots of icicles hanging from the tree that he found it under. The children in Chestnuts explored what happened to ice when we held it in our hands or left it in our classroom. We then looked at three different sized pieces of ice and predicted which would melt first.

The children used excellent descriptive language to explain how the ice felt and they correctly predicted that the smallest piece of ice would melt first.
