For our first science club together I set the children a challenge. I challenged them to make me the tallest free standing tower they could. There was just one problem, they could only use paper and tape.
The children were very enthusiastic and set off on their mission. There were lots of discussions around the best way to win the challenge. Maddie said “we need more support here as it’s too heavy up here” and Mason encouraged everyone to work as a team. When things didn’t quite go to plan Coby could be heard saying “we need to rethink this guys”
The winning tower measured 1.2 metres and was free standing for longer than five minutes.
At the end of our club we looked at different towers around the world, how they were designed and the science behind their designs. We then compared them to our towers.
