Today in maths the year 5s were faced with this question

It caused a spontaneous debate that I wasn’t expecting and before long the room was divided and the children were arguing their case.

Half of the children said that not everyone would fit because when rounding the most children you could end up with would be 78 and the other half said everyone would fit because you might have less children.
In the end we used a number line to prove our answer. The children in Y5 really enjoyed the unplanned debate and have asked to do some more next week so watch this space!
