Nurture & Kitbag
Nurture & Kitbag
At Greasbrough Primary we pride ourselves in offering children that need additional support with SEMH a variety of interventions. One of which is nurture.
What is the Purpose of a Nurture Group?
The Nurture Group continues the ethos of an already nurturing environment within school and provides inclusion for all children, enabling them to raise their self esteem and emotional wellbeing and for them to have a sense of belonging to the school community. We provide a structured routine with clear boundaries to ensure the children feel safe and secure. The Nurture Group helps children to become independent learners, boosts their confidence and improves social skills, giving them skills such as:
- To engage, settle, listen and concentrate
- To share and take turns, to accept losing a game
- To build friendships with peers
- Gives opportunities to talk about and understand their feelings
- To work on curriculum based activities from their classrooms
- To experience and practise the development of positive relationships
Another great intervention we offer at Greasbrough is Kitbag.
What is the Purpose of a Kitbag Group?
Kitbag is designed to help children become calm, resilient, understand one another better and grow positive relationships. These skills enable children to deal more effectively with today’s uncertain, complex and challenging world.
It is a multi-sensory resource that helps children and young people discover ways to talk about their feelings and share their thoughts in a safe place. It works well on a one to one basis, in pairs and also small groups. Kitbag helps school to listen and understand what children are feeling. It creates a simple way to check in with them.
The main elements are there to help children become calm, help share feelings, encourage reflection, open up dialogue, grow mutual understanding and promotes confidence within children.
Overtime, Kitbag can help children grow empathy for others. It provides a natural way for children to deepen relationships, grow trust and form friendships.
