Mrs Hetherington and Miss Shaw would love to welcome your little one to the Acorns class! 

We are a mixed year group containing both F1 and F2 children this academic year and we will have an amazing adventure watching your children develop and grow. We pride ourselves on learning through play, with stimulating and inviting provision both indoors and outdoors. 

We have a new phonics scheme for the F1 children, through which we teach phonological awareness via popular nursery rhymes that the children love. Whereas F2 children are taught the same phonics sessions as the Chestnuts class through the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics scheme.

Reading is a fundamental part of our curriculum, with our topic work and activities taking inspiration from the high-quality texts we will be reading in class. Our aims for the children are to promote a love of stories, both verbal and written, with the use of helicopter stories and drawing clubs in our curriculum to promote children’s creativity and mark-making skills.
