Last week in Chestnuts D the children learnt about the story “Little Red”, which is an alternative tale to the original fairytale “Little Red Riding Hood”. In drawing club the children enjoyed thinking of a different disguise for the wolf to wear to trick grandma into letting him in and collaborated to draw their ideas on large paper. The children also made jam sandwiches for grandma and get well soon cards to try and make her feel better.

In maths they used their knowledge of numbers five to ten and use part whole models for the first time.

We also explored magnetism and the children went on a magnet hunt, comparing different materials and sorting them into two groups magnetic and non magnetic. Some children even noticed that some objects were both magnetic and non magnetic.

We also read the social story, the not so friendly friend and discussed how sometimes to is okay to not play with someone if they aren’t being kind. We discussed what makes a kind friend and talked about how we could make situations better if they made wrong choices.

Mr Jenkinson also paid Chestnuts a visit in our outside area and taught the children different ball skills, they practised aiming and throwing and catching. The children loved playing with Mr Jenkinson and learning new skills.
