In KS1, we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. To support this, we visited the Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield to take part in a workshop.
When we arrived, we went upstairs to explore the museum. In her, we learned about different emergency services and what they do, what to do in an emergency and why the services are important. We could test some of the equipment and role play as different emergency service workers.
Later, we took part in a workshop where we learned all about the Great Fire of London in 1666. We learned about the key people involved, the cause of the fire, the fire service at the time and how they put the fire out. This was an interactive workshop, where the children could dress up and act out parts of the story.
After lunch, we saw some fire engines from the past, including some of the first ever fire engines! After we looked at the, we began to sketch them.
Finally, we had a tour of the museum by a lady called Jane. Jane was Samuel Pepys maid from 1666! She had travelled back in time to tell us her version of events during the Great Fire of London. This was very interesting and we had lots of questions to ask.
Jane also showed us around the museum, where we could see some older ambulances and explore them!
