Keeping Safe Online

Here at Greasbrough Primary we recognise the need to educate both children and parents of the potential dangers of being online. This allows our children to make the right choices and understand what to do if they ever feel unsafe or come across inappropriate content. A number of useful resources and links to informative websites for both adults and children have been gathered and can be found by following the links below.

Keeping safe online is just as important as keeping safe at home and in the playground.

Remember if you ever feel unsafe or feel you are being bullied online speak to an adult. All adults in school can help you and will be able to offer you advice and support about what to do and how to keep safe.

There are lots of ways to keep yourself safe whilst online, below are some useful websites which can help you learn more about being safe when using the internet and social media.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online

E-Safety is a key part of the new computing curriculum and is being delivered throughout school. However, in order for us to effectively educate children on the dangers of being online and how to keep themselves safe it is important that we work in partnership with parents and carers.

The advances in technology and the surge in social media often means children now have a digital profile before they are even born. Therefore it is our job to work together to educate children on how to keep safe whilst benefiting from being online.

There are a number of useful websites which can help to educate parents and carers on how to keep their children safe, including advice on security and privacy settings on devices in the home.

Childnet provide interactive advice for parents and carers, covering a wide range of issues to allow parents to support their children to use the internet safely and responsibly.

SaferInternet.org gives parents and carers the knowledge needed to protect children online from unsuitable content and communication, by providing safety tools on security and privacy settings for web browsers and social media accounts. However it is important to note that most social media accounts including Facebook and Instagram require the user to be 13 before opening an account.

Internetmatters.org is a useful website which has developed checklists for parents to help them keep children safe depending on the age of your child.

These are just some useful websites which can be used to access the information you need to keep your child safe online. Further advice and support is available from school. A new magazine has also been ordered which will offer advice on keeping your child safe online.
