What a busy and exciting week we have had in Chestnuts!
This week, we have been exploring our very own story, ‘Chestnuts and the Autumn Hedgehog’, and we were lucky enough to bring the story to life with our very own autumn adventure!
We wrapped up warm and set off to explore our school grounds, searching for signs of autumn and looking for the animals from our story. We spotted a squirrel scampering in the trees, watched birds fluttering through the sky and listened to the crunchy autumn leaves beneath our feet. Finally, when we reached the school pond, we discovered a little hedgehog hiding beneath the fallen leaves! What an exciting discovery!
We even took our Drawing Club learning outdoors! Inspired by our adventure, we drew our hedgehog character beside the pond and carefully observed our surroundings to draw the setting of our story. During Adventure Time, we used our wonderful imaginations to think about what else might be hiding beneath the autumn leaves. We had some fantastic ideas!
Back in the classroom, we continued our learning through Talk for Writing, using our growing vocabulary and knowledge to create sentences all about hedgehogs.
During our autumn adventure, we also collected lots of beautiful fallen leaves, which we used to create a lovely collaborative leaf-print canvas. We explored the different shapes, sizes and colours of the leaves and worked together to create our very own autumn masterpiece!
We have also been busy learning the poem ‘Leaves Are Falling’ from Poetry Basket, practising the words and actions ready for our Harvest Festival next week. Keep your eyes peeled for our special poetry video next week! 🍁
To make our week even more special, we welcomed our families into school for our Autumn Maths Stay and Play session. It was wonderful to see so many families joining us and enjoying learning together!
What a fantastic week of exploring, discovering, creating, imagining and learning! We are so proud of our little Chestnuts! 🍂🦔
